No one at Georgia ever imagined that DJ Jacobs would not play at Georgia.

Georgia football was one of the finalists for five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs last month, but he unfortunately chose to commit to Ohio State. The Bulldogs always go after the top players in the country in every recruiting class, so that means they are going to lose a fair number of these battles.

But this was a recruitment that will sting for a long time.

The good news for Georgia is that there is still a year to change Jacobs’ mind. The bad news though is that he reportedly has no plans of ever leaving Ohio State.

Georgia’s lost all hope to flip 5-star EDGE

There are a few reasons why losing this recruitment was so bad for Georgia. The first and obvious reason is that he is the No. 1 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. That is a player Georgia always wants in their class, so falling short will always be a sad thing to see.

On top of that, Jacobs is actually from the state of Georgia. So this means another year has gone by with the best player from the Peach State choosing to play college football elsewhere.

The thing that makes this loss the most frustrating though is that Jacobs is a legacy recruit. His father played at Georgia from 1999-2002, so one would assume that would’ve helped UGA win this recruitment. That however is not the case.

Goegia may still try and work their magic and flip Jacobs throughout the year, but they would be wise to not waste too much of their time. UGA has always felt like an afterthought to Jacobs throughout his recruitment, and the latest report from his camp continues that trend. So while it is unfortunate for Georgia to lose this recruitment, the sooner they accept there’s nothing they can do the better.
