Five-star quarterback Jared Curtis has always been one of the highest ranked players in the country. So the fact that he is committed to Georgia has always been a big deal.
But 247Sports released a new update to their rankings this week, and Curtis saw his ranking improve. In fact, his ranking jumped up three spots which may not seem like a lot, but he moved up as high as he could as he the new No. 1 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Jared Curtis skyrockets in latest 247Sports rankings update
Curtis has been committed to Georgia since May 5, and ever since then he has been the Bulldogs highest ranked commit in their 2026 recruiting class. But he was never the No. 1 recruit in the country until 247Sports gave him that title earlier this week.
This typically is a good reason to celebrate, but Georgia has some things to worry about. Curtis's commitment to Georgia no longer feels secure like it did throughout the summer. He recently took two visits to Vanderbilt but was quick to say that he was remaining a Bulldog no matter what, but the latest comments about his recruitment suggests otherwise.
Earlier this week word came out that Curtis wants to play as a true freshman next season. That is a big problem if he comes to Georgia because there is no chance he would start over Gunner Stockton if he returns. He could win the backup job and play a little bit throughout the season, but Kirby Smart won't guarantee him that.
So it remains to be seen if Curtis ends up flipping to another school or not, but for now Georgia can celebrate the fact that he is the new No. 1 player in the country.
