Jared Curtis is the crown jewel of Georgia's 2026 recruiting class. He not only is the No. 1 quarterback in the country, but he was recently named the top ranked player in the entire class as well, so it's easy to see why Georgia is excited for his arrival in Athens next year.
Georgia unfortunately is having some issues holding onto his commitment. Curtis took two visits to Vanderbilt a few weeks ago, but since then everyone in his camp have assured UGA that he is remaining a Bulldog. But a new quote from Curtis's camp shows that he may be questioning his decision to come to Georgia.
Judah Carroll with UGA Football Live shared that Curtis wants to “play as a true freshman at the school of his choice.”

5-star Jared Curtis’s commitment to Georgia is in jeopardy
According to the above report, Curtis would like to play next season as a true freshman wherever he ends up going. He definitely has the talent to play in college right away next season, but Georgia isn't able to guarantee him that opportunity.
Gunner Stockton has quickly become one of the top quarterbacks in the country, and he more than likely will return to Georgia next year for one more season. And even if Curtis comes in and dominates all offseason like everyone expects, he is not taking Stockton's starting spot. Kirby Smart also does not guarantee anyone playing time, but he especially wouldn't do that for Curtis if Stockton returns for one more season.
Curtis however could still play a little bit next season if he wins the competition to be Stockton's backup. He would then have some opportunities throughout the season to play when Georgia is winning games by a large margin, but it's unclear if that would be good enough for him.
It's unclear at this point if Curtis is going to stick with Georgia or not. Vanderbilt is still doing everything they can to flip him, and it's likely that a few other schools are as well. But even though Curtis's commitment is extremely important, Smart needs to stand his ground and not guarantee him anything because that is not the culture anyone should want at Georgia.
