Kemon Spell is a five-star running back who is the No. 7 overall player in the country. He also is the top ranked running back in the 2027 recruiting class as well, so the fact that he is committed to Georgia is a really big deal for the program.
But a scenario existed a few years ago that could have resulted in him not being ranked this in the recruiting rankings. In fact, there is a world where he is not committed to Georgia right now.
And it all has to do with this crazy high school story where he shocked his coach with his running ability when he wasn't even a running back on the depth chart.
The first high school game for Kemon Spell was his breakout. But his head coach was stunned.

"What in the world?"
The nation's No. 1 RB prospect had a storybook first varsity game. Especially for a projected backup safety.https://t.co/CMBHOHbORN pic.twitter.com/wdrzEfEInk
5-star Kemon Spell's recruitment nearly ended before it ever began
Spell's high school coach in the above article said that they don't really play freshmen on Varsity too often. Their program is strong enough where they don't need to, so they typcially save their players until their sophomore year before they play a lot.
But Spell gave them no choice.
Spell was put on the team as a backup safety for the Varsity team's first game of the year. Towards the end of the game they decided to give him one handoff becuase they heard he was supposed to be pretty good. Spell took that carry for 35 yards before being pushed out of bounds. He followed that up on the very next play with a 25 yard run.
His coach had no idea he was capable of that, and it was from that moment on that Spell became a focal point of their offense even as a freshman.
Who knows what Spell's story would've been if he never got that carry. But he did get that carry and ever since he blossomed into the No. 1 running back in the country and a future star between the hedges.
