Georgia football's top remaining target on the recruiting trail is five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson. Not only is Atkinson the No. 1 recruit from the state of Georgia, but he is the No. 9 overall player in the country and the top ranked linebacker as well, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

After taking four official visits this June, Atkinson is yet to announce a commitment date. However, it was expected that he would do so during the month of August, but a recent update on Monday indicates that Atkinson may in fact be announcing his commitment in July now instead.

Georgia is closing in on a commitment from nation's No. 1 LB

As mentioned, Atkinson took four official visits throughout the month of June to Clemson, Oregon, Georgia and Texas. After these four visits, the consensus among college football recruiting experts is that Georgia is still the team to beat. This is seen on 247Sports as UGA is the only team with a crystal ball prediction in their favor and on On3 who gives the Bulldogs the best chance to win this recruitment.

Texas however has quickly become the team challenging Georgia the most in Atkinson's recruitment. The Longhorns were the last team to host Atkinson in June, and many reports came out after this visit stating they have closed the gap with Georgia. But no expert was ready to say Texas was his new leader, so it appears Georgia is still out in front in this battle.

At this point though it is still possible for Georgia or Texas to win this battle, so until Atkinson announces his commitment anything is possible. But hopefully that commitment comes sooner than later, because if Georgia in fact is still winning this recruitment then a commitment occurring soon would really benefit them.
