Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews announced his commitment to Texas A&M back in May 15. Georgia was a finalist in his recruitment, but it became very clear in the days leading up to his announcement that he was not going to be picking the Bulldogs.

It obviously would’ve been nice if Georgia won this recruitment, but no one was too upset because it was expected. What Matthews did during his announcement though is what rubbed some Georgia fans the wrong way.

Recruits love to make a big deal about their commitments, and they have every right to do so. This is a special moment in their lives, so if they want to play their announcement up then more power to them.

Sometimes these announcements are taken a little too far though, and some Georgia fans were left feeling that after Matthews announced his decision.

During his announcement Matthews pretended that Texas A&M wasn’t going to be his choice. He put his Aggies hat on and then ripped it off and threw it into the crowd. This was done just to throw people off a little because he eventually stood up and took his jacket off which revealed a Texas A&M shirt underneath.

Before revealing his shirt though he grabbed Georgia’s hat and threw it off the table.

He definitely didn’t mean any disrespect towards Georgia, but this still rubbed some people he wrong why. Why did he have to make it about Georgia like that when he was just going to choose A&M? He could’ve just left Georgia’s hat alone and still built up his commitment to Texas A&M, but he unfortunately decided against that.

This level of disrespect unfortunately has just been the norm for Georgia recently as fellow five-star Donte Wright did UGA dirty as well.

Wright’s recruitment was a bit different from Matthews because he was originally committed to Georgia. In fact, he committed to Georgia last summer and remained pledged to the Bulldogs until a few weeks ago.

He then chose to flip to Miami and almost immediately announced that his recruitment was shutdown after doing so.

This rubbed Georgia fans the wrong way too because they were left wondering why he wouldn’t do that for them. Even after committing to Georgia last year Wright continued to talk to and visit other schools, so why even bother committing to Georgia in the first place if he was going to do that?

So not only is Georgia losing five-star recruitments, but these players are making a joke of them in the process. Georgia can’t really do anything about it right now, but they will hopefully get the last laugh by winning on the field all throughout their careers.

And Matthews specifically will have to face Georgia at least twice during his career once he arrives to Texas A&M next year.

Good luck.
