Georgia football still has a few high profile recruits they are targeting. One of those recruits is five-star running back Savion Hiter who shared on Friday that he will be announcing his commitment on August 19.

Georgia has hope with nation's No. 1 RB

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Hiter is the No. 9 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 1 running back in the 2026 recruiting class and the top ranked player from his home state of Virginia.

When Hiter announces his commitment next month he will reportedly be deciding between Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Tennessee.

No official predictions have been made in Hiter's recruitment yet, but the consensus among recruiting insiders is that Michigan is most likely the team leading for Hiter right now. But until an official prediction is made no one will really knows who his leader is.

This is an extremely important recruitment for Georgia because they just lost the battle for fellow five-star running back Derrek Cooper to Texas last week. Cooper was Georgia's top remaining target at running back at the time, so this was a big loss for UGA. So now Georgia has a chance to roll the dice with the No 1 running back in the country and see if he will join four-star Jae Lamar as Georgia's pair of running backs in their 2026 class.

If UGA does lose Hiter's recruitment, Georgia does have a flip target they are keeping in touch with as well. That player is four-star Peach State product Amari Latimer who is currently committed to Wisconsin.

If Kirby Smart can win either of these recruitments then Georgia's running back haul in the 2026 class will be extremely impressive. But if they fail to bring either to Georgia then the future of Georgia's running back room could be in serious jeopardy.
