One of the only programs who found any success against Georgia this summer on the recruiting trail is Texas. The Longhorns stole not one, not two, but three five-star recruits right from Georgia’s fingertips throughout the summer months.
But Georgia also found a lot of success against Texas this offseason as well, with the biggest win coming from five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro who chose Georgia over the Longhorns in July.
This was one of Georgia’s biggest recruiting wins of the 2026 recruiting cycle, but that win did not come easy. In fact, Prothro recently detailed how Georgia was able to overcome a significant NIL offer from Texas and still win his recruitment.
“They (Texas) offered what they offered, and at the end of the day, it is just what is best for me and who is going to develop me the best," Prothro shared via dawgnation.com.
Prothro’s father also confirmed that Texas made a massive NIL offer to him as well.
“They made a significant offer to him,” Prothro's father confirmed. “From the get-go, the whole recruiting process, we always said it wasn’t about the money. It was about the best place for him that is going to develop him and get him to the next level.”
Kaiden Prothro is locked in with Georgia
Kirby Smart preaches relationships over transaction in the new NIL era of college football, and their recruiting battles against Texas are the perfect examples of that. The Longhorns typically had the higher offer on the table, and those offers led Texas to beat Georgia for the three five-star recruits. But if that is why those recruits didn’t pick UGA, then Smart isn’t too worried.
Prothro on the other hand proved to be the perfect recruit for Georgia. He chose UGA because of his relationships and love for the school even though he could’ve gone to Texas for me money. That is the exact player Smart is looking for.
And to make things even better, Prothro also shared that his recruitment is officially over and he will be signing with the Bulldogs later this year.
“I’d probably say I am done done,” Prothro said. “I’d say I am locked in with Georgia. Just trying to focus on the season. Get right for the season and finish off with a bang.”
So it’s safe to say that Prothro has found his home, and Georgia fans should be over the moon that his home will be in Athens for the next three to four year.
