Five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson is the top ranked player from the state of Georgia and the No. 1 linebacker in the 2026 recruiting class as well. Atkinson has done a good job keeping his recruitment close to his chest, but Monday night he shared that he will be announcing his commitment on Tuesday, July 15.

5-star Tyler Atkinson is ready to commit
As mentioned, Atkinson has done an excellent job at keeping certain facts about his recruitment a secret. Throughout the month of June he did not announce his next official visit until a few days before that trip took place. So the fact that Atkinson waited until the night before to announce when he’d be committing is the least surprising thing to happen in his recruitment so far.
Atkinson will be deciding between Georgia, Clemson, Oregon and Texas when he announces his commitment on Tuesday. Many recruiting experts believe that Texas and UGA are the two teams leading for Atkinson, but those same experts have shared in the past that Georgia is the team trending in this recruitment. However, a new prediction was placed Monday night predicting Atkinson will be committing to Texas instead of Kirby Smart and Georgia.
A commitment from Atkinson would do wonders for UGA in the 2026 team recruiting rankings. Monday marked the day when the Bulldogs officially passed USC for the No. 1 team ranking according to Rivals. So a commitment from Atkinson, who is one of the top players in the country, would put a lot of distance between UGA and the rest of the country.
Georgia fans will find out in less than a day if Atkinson decides to stay home and commit to UGA or head to Texas. And while it’s looking like Georgia won’t be getting good news, anything is still possible.
