Georgia football entered their matchup with Alabama with no pressure whatsoever when it comes to the College Football Playoff. As the committee's No. 3 overall team they could have lost to Alabama and still comfortably made the playoff field.
The same however can't be said for Alabama. In fact, Aaron Murray believes Georgia's win over the Crimson Tide might have been enough to kick Alabama out of the CFP field altogether.
I hate that there is the thought about punishing a team for playing in their conference championship game

But… Bama has been trending backwards for 5 weeks now. Not a lot to like about this team right now
Aaron Murray believes Georgia just ended Alabama's season
Entering the SEC Championship game Alabama was the CFP committee's No. 9 overall seed. This had Alabama just barely inside the 12-team field as the No. 10 seed was the cut line for at-large bids this season.
Even if Alabama was that close to missing the playoff, many fans and college football eperts believed they shouldn't be punished if they lost to Georgia when the rest of the country was sitting at home. Murray however does not agree as he thinks this loss coupled with Alabama's end of season struggles should be enough to keep them out of the playoff field.
Georgia lost their second game of the season at home a few weeks ago to Oklahoma. Two weeks later they barely beat a terrible Auburn team before getting destroyed by Georgia Saturday night in the SEC Championship game. Had this been a competitive loss then there would be no reason to debate keeping them out of the playoff, but losing by 21 will not help their case.
It will be interesting to see what the committee decides to do, but if it were up to Murray he would keep Alabama out of the playoff. And that would be the best outcome by far for Georgia because not only are the sitting pretty entering the playoff but they'd be able to brag that they kept the Tide out of the playoff as well.
