The final College Football Playoff rankings were released on Sunday and Georgia found themselves with the No. 3 overall seed. While it is nice to see the Bulldogs earn a first round bye in the playoff it is a bit surprising that they stayed behind Ohio State who came in at No. 2.

The Buckeyes just lost to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship game on Saturday while Georgia dominated Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Since both teams finished with a 12-1 record everyone assumed Georgia would be given the higher seed, but that was not the case.

Georgia fans were obviously very upset by this decision, and Aaron Murray's summarized the fanbases frustrations to perfection.

Aaron Murray believes he CFP committee got Georgia's ranking wrong

Ohio State and Indiana were the top two teams in the country for most of the season. Georgia however has not been far behind as they rattled off nine straight victories after their loss earlier this season to Alabama. So even though Ohio State had a great season that dserves to be rewarded, they did not have a better season than Georgia.

At some point credit has to be given to the conference champion in the SEC. The SEC was a much better conference than the Big Ten this season, so it makes absolutely no sense that the Big Ten runner up is ranked higher than Georgia when they had the same record. On top of that, Georgia and Ohio State have one common opponent in Texas who UGA dominated and OSU barely beat.

At the end of the day the difference between the No. 2 and No. 3 seed really isn't that different. In fact, Georgia's path to the semifinals might actually be easier than Ohio State's path. But the CFP committee set a dangerous precedent by ranking Ohio State above Georgia, and Murray made sure to let the committee know.
