Georgia received the worst news this week when Amaris Williams tore his ACL and was ruled out for the season. Williams is a transfer outside linebacker from Auburn who has only been on campus for a few months. Georgia was hoping he would help solve their pass rush issues from last season, but unfortunately that will have to wait until the 2027 season.

Georgia now has to look for the next man up. Thankfully at Georgia there is always another elite player waiting behind anyone that gets injured, so this injury will now allow former five-star recruit Isaiah Gibson a chance to have a "breakout season."

Isaiah Gibson will need to step up in Amaris Williams' absence

Gibson is back for his second season at Georgia. Out of high school he was a five-star recruit and expectations were sky high for him entering his true freshman season last year. Unfortunately he did not meet those expectations as limited playing time resulted in just one tackle during the year.

Gibson was already expected to play a lot more this season even before Williams' injury, but now he will be called upon even more. Now the only question that remains is if he'll be ready, and at this point it's impossible to say.

But Georgia is going to need him if they’re going to have a successful season. Williams was more than likely going to be one of Georgia’s leaders this season, so he is leaving some big shoes to fill. But if anyone is going to be able to fill them it is a former top 10 recruit, and the good news is that is exactly who Gibson is.

Georgia does need to be careful though because one more injury could derail the season, but for now that is a problem for another day.
