Injuries are part of football, but no one ever wants to see them happen to their team. Season-ending injuries however are the worst thing imaginable, especially when the season is still months away.

Unfortunately for Georgia star outside linebacker Amaris Williams reportedly tore his ACL during practice on Tuesday and has already been ruled out for the season.

The details surrounding Williams’ injury were not released, but at this point it doesn’t really matter. At some point on Tuesday Williams went down with an ACL injury that proved to be season-ending, and that’s the only thing that matters.

A season-ending injury to anyone is bad news, but it feels even worse that it happened to Williams. For starters, Williams is a transfer from Auburn who just arrived on campus a couple months ago. So he hasn’t even suited up for a real game at Georgia yet and is already out for the year.

The fact this injury happened this week is even worse too because this is the last week of spring ball. Georgia has just one more regular practice on Thursday left and then will cap off spring ball with G-Day on Saturday. So Williams had to make it through just two more practices to get to the summer where injuries are less likely to occur.

Last season Georgia really struggled rushing the passer. That is why Kirby Smart went out and got a guy like Williams who has the ability to fix those problems this year. Unfortunately Georgia will have to wait until the 2027 season before they ever see what he can do on the field.

This is the first major injury that has hit Georgia so far this year. Other injuries have come up this spring, most notably to Gunner Stockton, but no one had been ruled out for the year yet.

But that unfortunately has happened this week with someone who projected to be a major contributor on defense this season.
