Kirby Smart brought a nice haul of transfers to Georgia this offseason. Out of all of those players though, EDGE Amaris Williams stands out the most.
Not only he is a former five-star recruit from the 2024 recruiting class, but he transferred from rival Auburn.
Expectations are high for Williams to make an impact this fall, but he has a lot of work to do to get comfortable playing in Georgia's system. That work begins this spring during practice, and everyone knows how challenging Smart runs his practices. A recent video shows how quickly Williams is learning how difficult practices are at Georgia as Smart was recorded on a microphone berating him after a play in practice.
Someone on the internet was outside of UGA’s practice fields today…

Sounds like Georgia’s 6’7 freshman TE (Elyiss Williams) blew up transfer EDGE Amaris Williams on a run play. Kirby Smart made sure everyone knew he saw it.

Kirby Smart doesn't hold back after Auburn transfer Amaris Williams poor play in practice
The above video was taken in the parking lot outside of Georgia's pracitce. No one can see what's happening on the field, but Smart's reaction made it very clear.
It's clear that tight end Elyiss Williams made a huge play against Amaris when this video was taken, and it was such a big play that Smart had to call him out.
Smart likely did this in an attempt to motivate Williams even more. The last thing anyone wants is to be called out in front of the whole team for making a bad play, so Williams will make sure that this is the last time Smart will ever get to do this.
Williams didn't have a huge impact at Auburn. During his two seasons he only recorded 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Two of those sacks though came last season, so he is showing that he is progressing so far in his college career.
Now he comes to Georgia with hopes of being able to help fix their pass rush struggles from last season, and if Smart keeps coaching him this hard then there is a great chance he will have a breakout season in Athens this year.
