An interesting stat has surfaced surrounding Carson Beck's turnover problems
One of the biggest talking points this season for Georgia football is the turnover problems QB Carson Beck has been having. And those problems have hit their peak in Georgia’s last two games with Beck throwing three interceptions in each game.
Thankfully Georgia was still able to win both games, but the concern level is rising in the fanbase. If these turnover problems continue for Beck, it feels like it’s just a matter of time until a team takes advantage of them and beats the Bulldogs.
But what if there was a stat out there that shows Georgia’s offense may be better off when Beck throws an interception?
Georgia’s offense scores more points when Beck throws an interception
According to Brandon Zimmerman with ESPN and the SEC Network, Georgia football is actually averaging more points per game when Beck throws an interception. In the four games Beck has thrown an interception, UGA is averaging 34.8 points per game. However, in the four games Beck has not thrown an interception, Georgia is averaging 31.5 points per game.
There really isn’t a good explanation for how this stat happened. Whenever Beck throws an interception, that obviously is one less possession Georgia gets to score points. So the fact that this doesn’t even matter in relation to this stat is pretty bizarre.
Now this doesn’t mean Beck should automatically throw an interception every game in hopes that Georgia will end up scoring more points. The obvious reason is because it could set their opponent up with good field position, allowing them to score more themselves.
However, it is reassuring to see that Beck and the offense don’t get discouraged when they do turn the ball over and make mistakes. That speaks to the resiliency Beck has, and the mindset to never give up no matter what happens.
And that is the exact mindset that Beck needs to have if Georgia is going to win a championship this season.
