Thanks to what happened with Jalen Carter on Thursday night, the start of the new NFL season has not been going well for former Georgia football standouts now in the league. As it turns out, we all may have to wait an extra week to see former UGA talent Andrew Thomas on the field.
This week, Thomas has been limited with the Giants due to a foot injury. He was held out of practice on Thursday, but was back out on the field on Friday. Despite that, the former first-rounder told reporters that a decision will be made on his Week 1 availability on Saturday. However, the buzz out of East Rutherford is that it's unlikely he'll be ready to rock:
Andrew Thomas says he feels good and he will talk to the trainers later and see where he’s at. Kind of make a decision tomorrow. Also said he didn’t do the amount of reps he usually does on a Friday practice.

My guess is he won’t play Sunday.
Andrew Thomas could miss NFL Week 1 for the NY Giants due to a foot injury
It goes without saying, but this would be a major setback not only for Thomas, but the Giants as a whole. At the same time, head coach Brian Daboll is surely going to want to be careful with his elite offensive lineman and not rush him back too soon.
This is a make-or-break year for Daboll and the Giants, and depth for the offensive line finally isn't a major problem for the NFC East side. Rushing Thomas back too soon to play vs. Washington and having him risk making his injury worse seems like it'd be a mistake.
We won't know for sure what happens until Saturday, but at this point Georgia fans who were planning to watch Thomas in action against Washington should probably make other plans. The 6-5 Thomas is entering his sixth season in the NFL, all with the G-Men.
Unfortunately for the big-bodied tackle, the past two years have been filled with injuries. In 2023, he was only able to appear in 10 games and he followed that up with just six appearances last campaign. The amount of missed games are adding up and fast. Because of that, NY may choose to be extra careful and sit him for Week 1.
