Friday night was a great night of college football. Ohio State took on Texas in the second College Football Playoff semifinal game, and the game absolutely lived up to the hype.

The Buckeyes and Longhorns entered the fourth quarter tied at 14 before Ohio State turned it on and won 28-14. This win clinched their trip to the National Championship game against Notre Dame, who beat Penn State on Thursday.

Most Georgia football fans likely watched this game on Friday, but did UGA fans catch the insane thing announcer Chris Fowler said about Georgia during the game on TV?

”Texas has been the best team in the SEC all season long.”

Texas was not the best SEC team this season

During the first half of this CFP game, Fowler made the bold proclamation that Texas has been the best team in the SEC all season long. And while the Longhorns certainly have been one of the best teams this year, there’s no way anyone can argue with a straight face that they were the No. 1 SEC team.

That title belongs to Georgia.

Did Fowler forget that Georgia beat Texas not once, but twice this season? This includes a dominant 30-15 win at Texas early in the season as well as a 22-19 win in the SEC Championship game.

Sure the Longhorns made it further in the playoffs than Georgia did, but that had more to do with the easy draw Texas received. Texas played Clemson and Arizona State to get to the CFP semifinals, which are much easier games than Georgia’s quarterfinal matchup against Notre Dame. If the Bulldogs had the Longhorns’ path then they would have likely made the semifinals too.

But at the end of the day, it’s just insane to make this claim on national TV when Fowler knows Georgia beat Texas twice this season. Nobody’s arguing that Texas isn’t a really good football team, but just leave the discussion at that, there’s no reason to lie about the Longhorns and falsely compare them to Georgia.
