Georgia football wrapped up their regular season the same way they always do by taking down Georgia Tech. It may not have been pretty, but the Bulldogs did what they had to do and beat a really good Georgia Tech team to finish the regular season at 11-1.
However, their rivalry victory was not the biggest story of the weekend as Georgia clinched their spot in the SEC Championship game thanks to Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns defeating Texas A&M. And because of that result, the AP Poll decided it was time to move Georgia up their rankings once again.
Georgia puts distance between themselves and the rest of the SEC in Week 15 AP Poll
Texas A&M was the last undefeated team remaining in the SEC. They were also the only team still ranked above Georgia from the conference as well. The Bulldogs however stole the No. 3 ranking from them in the week 15 AP Poll.
Ohio State and Indiana both won again to finish their perfect regular seasons. The Buckeyes and Hoosiers will meet in the Big Ten Championship game this weekend, so as long as Georgia beats Alabama they should move up to No. 2 this time next week.
Speaking of Alabama, they held steady at No. 10 in this week's poll, so the SEC Championship game will be yet another top 10 showdown between the two best programs in the conference. The Aggies dropped to No. 7 in this week's poll while Ole Miss came in at No. 6. So this is the first time all season that Georgia has found themselves with a little bit of a gap between them and the rest of the conference in the AP Poll.
The College Football Playoff committee will release their next rankings on Tuesday, and those are the only rankings that matter at this point. But Georgia should expect to find themselves in the exact same position in that poll as they are in the AP Poll.
