Georgia football survived the upset bid from Tennessee on Saturday as they stormed from behind and knocked off the Tennessee Volunteers 44-41 in overtime.
The Bulldogs entered the game as the No. 6 team in the country, but they were yet to prove themselves through the first two weeks of the season. A lot of that had to do with the easy teams Georgia played in their first two games, but UGA did struggle against Austin Peay which created a lot of doubt surrounding their team.
But a road victory against the No. 15 Volunteers eliminate any doubt any college football fan will have about this Georgia team.
Georgia stays put in updated AP Poll
The AP Poll just released their week four rankings, and the Bulldogs moved up one spot to No. 5. All five teams that were ahead of Georgia won on Saturday, but Oregon fell from No. 4 to No. 6 after beating Northwestern.
Ohio State, Penn State and LSU held steady at the top of the rankings and Miami (FL) moved up one spot to No. 4.
There is a good argument for Georgia to be even higher because two teams above them have worse resumes than Georgia. Penn State is yet to play anyone good, and LSU’s win at Clemson doesn’t look so great anymore after the Tigers just lost their second game of the season to Georgia Tech.
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter all that much where Georgia is ranked. The Bulldogs proved on Saturday that they are one of the best teams in the country, so as long as they keep winning everything else will take care of itself.
Georgia is entering their first bye week of the season before hosting No. 14 Alabama in two weeks.
