There are a lot of people who deserve a lot of credit for Georgia's SEC Championship victory over Alabama on Saturday. Every player and coach on the team deserve all the credit in the world for finally beating the Crimson Tide again, and Georgia's entire support staff also deserve a lot of credit as well. Even Georgia's fans, especially those in attendance Saturday night, deserver some praise as well.
But Texas quarterback Arch Manning deserves a little credit as well because without him Georgia would have never been in position to win an SEC title in the first place.
Texas QB Arch Manning helped Georgia win their SEC title
Georgia was a major player throughout Manning's recruitment out of high school. The Bulldogs were even thought to be one of the favorites to land him at one point, and when that was the case everyone at Georgia was imagining him leading the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship in the future.
Manning however chose to go to Texas instead, and ever since being named the starting quarterback for the Longhorns this year he has given Georgia a lot of help en route to their SEC title.
The first way Manning helped Georgia win an SEC title was by playing poorly in their matchup earlier this season. Georgia dominated Texas a few weeks ago in Athens, and without that victory UGA would have never made it to Atlanta in the first place.
Manning then went on to upset Texas A&M in their regular season finale, and it was that win that clinched Georgia's spot in the SEC Championship game.
It's important to note that Manning does not deserve the same credit that every single person in Georgia's programs deserves. But it's impossible to not mention him and the assistance he gave UGA this season because without him and the Longhorns Georgia would have never made it to the SEC Championship game.
