Arch Manning to Georgia is the last thing UGA should want

Arch Manning would be a bad fit at Georgia.

Earlier this week former Bulldog David Pollack said he heard from an SEC coach that Arch Manning could enter the Transfer Portal this offseason. He also shared that this coach thinks Georgia would be the most likely landing spot for him.

Georgia fans were shook when they saw Pollack say this. Sure he is a good player, but after thinking this sceario through for just a few minutes it becomes clear that he isn't a good fit for Georgia at all.

Arch Manning isn't better than what Georgia has in their QB room

Manning isn't any better than what Georgia has at quarterback right now. He gets a lot of hype because of the name on the back of his jersey, but his stats have never backed it up.

So far this season he has thrown for 1,507 yards, 12 touchdowns and a whopping seven interceptions. Gunner Stockton on the other hand has 1,570 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Georgia also is ranked higher than Texas and have a better record this season, so who knows why Manning is getting more hype than Stockton.

Stockton will be gone next year, but Georgia has a backup in Ryan Puglisi who has shined in limited action this season. It may not be worth it for Georgia to lose multiple years of Puglisi being their starter just to have Manning for one season when he hasn't proven to be one of the best QBs in the country.

Georgia targeting Arch Manning would hurt their long term recruiting

One of the things that Kirby Smart has shown throughout his tenure as Georgia's head coach is that he is loyal to the players on his team. He has never been someone to go into the Transfer Portal to try and recruit over players he already has on his team, and that means something to players.

This shows them that he prefers to work with the players already in Georgia's building and that he trusts them to blossom into contributors as they develop and get older. That has especially been the case with Georgia's quarterbacks.

Just look at Stetson Bennett, Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton. They all waited their turn in Georgia's quarterback room and eventually were rewarded the starting job when it was their turn. Smart could've recruited a transfer over them, but he chose to trust the guys he's had in his QB room and that's worked out extremely well so far.

If Smart were to recruit Manning to Georgia then that could force the good players Georgia has to transfer elsewhere. It would also potentially make high school recruits think twice about committing to Georgia since they might think they could be replaced by a transfer at any point.

Manning is a solid player who is capable of finding success at any school. He however hasn't proven he can win at the highest level, and for Georgia it isn't worth risking their future just to have Manning for one season when he hasn't panned out into the player people thought he would be.
