Arkansas fans announced earlier this week that they were going to use the Georgia football game this weekend to protest against their athletic department. Instead of buying into the "Stripe the Stadium" theme being pushed, fans decided instead to "Empty out the Stadium."

Most probably assumed that Arkansas fans were just trying to make a point on social media and weren't actually going to boycott this game, but the parking lots and prime tailgate spots on campus were empty a couple hours before kickoff.

Maybe Arkansas fans felt there wasn't enough time to tailgate with an 11:00 am local game time, but minutes before the game was scheduled to begin the stadium was half empty which confirmed their fans were actually serious. Instead of packing their stadium in hopes of seeing their team upset No. 2 Georgia they chose to stay home to show just how upset they are with their athletic department.

Arkansas fans refuse to show up to suppor their team against Georgia
Arkansas fans are furious at their athletic department for a couple reasons. The biggest reason surfaced this week when The Athletic posted their roster valuations for every Power Four college football team in the country. Georgia found themselves in the middle of the pack in the SEC, but Arkansas was dead last in the conference.
This made Arkansas fans feel their athletic department doesn't care about being competitive in football, and after getting embarrassed by Utah 43-10 last week it confirmed how unserious Arkansas fans thought their athletic department was taking football.
If Arkansas fans didn't have their attention now they do. No athletic department wants to see their fans act this way, so fans might finally get their wish to have a better football team again. Unfortunately their actions could have greater consequences even if their athletic department starts providing the resources needed to compete in the SEC.
Arkansas may live to regret boycotting Georgia game
Georgia would more than likely win this game whether Arkansas fans packed their stadium or not. Their fans might think they are doing the right thing by boycotting this game, but their team and recruits are watching and may be turned off by this message.
The Arkansas players don't deserve to have fans boycott their games. They have nothing to do with the amount of money that their athletic department throws at the football program, so even though they've struggled to start this season they don't deserve to have their fans turn their back on them three games into the season.
This one decision from the Arkansas fan base could result in players wanting to transfer out of the program after this season. It also could cause future recruits to choose other schools over Arkansas. If their fans won't support them in the bad times then they may not want to be the ones to try and give them a good team to cheer for in the future.
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds at Arkansas, but Georgia won't have to worry about this at all as they continue living the life that Arkansas fans wish they had.
