Most Georgia football fans are also fans of the Atlanta Falcons, which isn’t the best thing in the world because the Falcons have been struggling in recent years. There are a lot of reasons why that is the case, but UGA fans love to proclaim what they think the leading cause is. And that’s because they don’t have former Georgia Bulldogs on their team.

To be fair, that probably is a pretty small reason for why the Falcons have been struggling, but as Georgia fans it is a fun excuse to make. But after watching the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl this year with Bulldogs all over their roster, maybe there is some truth to it.

It would take quite some time to add enough Bulldogs to the Falcons’ roster to mimic what the Eagles had, but the Falcons have to start somewhere if they want to go that route. And that is exactly what they did on Tuesday during NFL free agency.

Leonard Floyd is back in Georgia

EDGE Leonard Floyd spent three seasons at Georgia from 2013-2015 before he made the jump to the NFL. During his time as a Bulldog, Floyd recorded 184 tackles which included a whopping 17 sacks.

Floyd was selected by the Chicago Bears with the ninth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Since being drafted, Floyd has bounced around the league to three others teams including the Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills and most recently the San Francisco 49ers.

Floyd’s kept his reputation as an elite pass rusher his entire NFL career as he has tallied 66.5 sacks throughout his nine year career, so it’s clear to see that this is a massive pickup for the Falcons on their defensive line.

Atlanta now heads to the 2025 NFL Draft where they find themselves with the fifteenth overall pick in the draft. This is very significant because there is a great chance that one of the three projected first round picks from Georgia will still be available. So if Atlanta wants to continue stacking former Bulldogs on their team, they will likely have a chance to do so later this April with their first round pick.
