Georgia football's annual showdown with in-state rival Georgia Tech is always one of the most anticipated games of the season. However, the 2025 edition of the rivalry may have the most hype in quite some time, especially after the fiery response Brent Key made at ACC Media Days when discussing his team's matchup with Georgia later this fall.
“Those are way above my pay grade,” Brent Key shared via on3.com. “I could care less. We could go play them in Piedmont Park. I’m serious. We’ll go home tonight and play them at 5 o’clock at Piedmont Park. I could give a crap where we play.”
Brent Key is ready for revenge against Georgia
Everyone knows how the 2024 edition of this rivalry unfolded last season. Georgia Tech was the much better team for most of the night, but a late comeback by Georgia helped force overtime after all hope was seemingly lost. The game then went to eight overtimes before the Bulldogs finally prevailed 44-42.
This win marked the seventh straight victory for UGA against the Yellow Jackets.
Hype for this game was already at an all time high entering the 2025 season simply because of how electric this game was last season. Georgia Tech would love nothing more than to get their revenge after they felt like they should have won in Athens last season.
The Yellow Jackets also project to be a much better team than they typically are this year, and the game taking place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium only adds to the excitement as well.
Will Kirby Smart and Georgia be able to make it eight straight wins against Georgia Tech this season? Georgia will definitely be heavily favored in this game this fall, but it doesn't sound like Key is going to let his team roll over easy this year.
