Brent Venables just gave Georgia a reason to start liking Oklahoma

Out of all the teams in the SEC, Oklahoma is the school that Georgia fans hate the least. The Sooners have only been in the conference for two years, and Georgia really doesn't have much of a history with them.

It may be a stretch though to say that Georgia fans should start liking Oklahoma, but Sooners head coach Brent Venables just gave UGA a big compliment that might make everyone start liking them.

Georgia fans may have no choice but to like Oklahoma now

Georgia and Oklahoma have only played one time. That occurred at the 2018 Rose Bowl during their College Football Playoff masterpiece that ended in a 54-48 Georgia victory.

Since these teams have only played one time it's hard for either side to hate each other. That lack of hate was going to be tested this season when the Sooners travel to Georgia to face the Bulldogs in Athens in week four, but Venables comments at SEC Media Days will make it impossible for anyone to hate them.

Venables said that Georgia has been the "gold standard" in college football for quite some time. It's hard to deny that since Georgia has won two National Championships and three SEC titles this decade alone, but even that success isn't respected by everyone. Venables however knows exactly how good Georgia has been, and he isn't afraid to hide from it.

Venables is most impressed with the Bulldogs' record at home under Kirby Smart. He mentioned how Georgia has only lost once at home in the last few years as the Bulldogs only home loss since 2019 happened last season against Alabama. In fact, Georgia only has five losses at home during Smart's 10-year career, and three of those losses occurred during his first season at the helm.

Venables knows how good Georgia is, and that likely really concerns him because his Sooners have to face UGA in Athens this year.

Brent Venables sounds a little worried to play Georgia

Georgia's first big game of the season will come in week four when they play host to Oklahoma. There's a good chance both Georgia and Oklahoma will be top 10 teams for this matchup, so this will be the Bulldogs first true test in their quest to win the SEC for the third year in a row.

Georgia will be predicted to win this game, but Oklahoma is plenty good enough to knock them off. In fact, Oklahoma is the most likely team to beat Georgia at home this season.

Venables however likely isn't too confident in his team's chances to beat Georgia. Sure he will never admit it, but the fact that he is so impressed with Georgia's record at home shows how nervous he probably is.

If Georgia can survive this game they will be in a great position to get back to Atlanta to defend their SEC crown. They would still have to travel to Alabama and Ole Miss and play a few other really good teams too, but the odds would be in their favor to make the SEC Championship game.

Oklahoma however will be impossible to overlook, but instead of this game being a matchup filled withatred it's starting to feel like it will be as respectful as a top 10 matchup can possibly be.
