Georgia wasn’t too active in the Transfer Portal this offseason, but Kirby Smart did go after the positions where he felt they absolutely needed some help. After losing so many of their top pass catchers from last season, many fans believed they needed to add multiple wide receivers out of the portal.
That however did not happen as Georgia only snagged one receiver (Isiah Canion) out of the portal.
So why did he do that? It’s simple, Georgia has a rising star in Talyn Taylor that Smart knows he can trust to be a key playmaker this season.
Javon Wims isn’t sugarcoating it 👀

The former Dawg says Talyn Taylor is the best freshman he’s seen… and even backed a comparison to top-10 pick Garrett Wilson 😳
Georgia didn’t hit the portal heavy at WR for a reason.

Talyn Taylor has already earned Kirby Smart’s trust
Taylor came to Georgia last year as a five-star recruit. It isn’t too often that Georgia convinces a five-star receiver to come to Athens, but that is exactly what they were able to pull off with Taylor.
Unfortunately he didn’t explode onto the scene last season like some thought he would. He only recorded two receptions for 28 yards, and after suffering an injury his season was essentially over.
But this year will be different. Now that Georgia’s experienced receivers from a season ago all left for the NFL, it is up to the young guns to step up and make up for their absence. And no one is more equipped to pick up where they left off than Taylor.
Taylor has already been shining all spring. Smart has also been coaching him extremely hard as well, and that usually is a sign that he knows how special one of his players is.
So while Smart could’ve hit the portal much harder and landed multiple elite receivers, he chose to trust the guys already in the locker room. Smart prefers to do that anyways, but when he has someone as gifted as Taylor it is much easier to push forward with who he already has.
