Saturday night is a big night at Auburn. Not only are they playing host to Georgia in one of the biggest rivalries in all of college football, but they are retiring quarterback Cam Newton's jersey as well.
Every college football fan in the country should respect what Newton did at Auburn. Even Georgia fans should be able to tip their cap to him because of how great he was.
But after the latest comments from Newton leading into his ceremony, Georgia fans might not be so generous with their respect anymore.
“I want to have something to celebrate other than the jersey retirement at the end of the game,” Newton shared via sports.yahoo.com. “I want to go tailgate to tailgate, slapping Georgia flags down, breaking they sticks, breaking they whole energy.”
Cam Newton opens his mouth a little too much
Of course Newton wants Auburn to win on the night they retire his jersey. A loss to Georgia would taint what should be one of the greatest nights of his career. So it isn't surprising to see Newton beg and plead with Auburn and their fans to do everything they can to beat Georgia.
But Newton took his comments a little too far by saying he wants to go to Georgia tailgates, rub Auburn's win in the faces of UGA fans and tear Georgia flags down.
“It’s so many Georgia fans amongst me, that I can’t wait to just flick them away,” Newton continued. “If y’all would have it in y’all heart to go out there and make y’all's best performance this performance, I would really appreciate that.”
Kirby Smart was already going to have his team ready to win this game. A loss would put the Bulldogs season in serious jeoparady, so this game already had as much significance to it as any other. But these added comments from Newton will hopefully only make Georgia even more motivated to ruin Newton's night and leave Auburn with their ninth straight victory in this rivalry.
