Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck is officially back. Beck had an elite game against Tennessee last week, but the question coming into Saturday’s game against UMass was if he’d be able to stay consistent and play well multiple weeks in a row.
It’s safe to say Beck left no doubt and showed everyone that his elite play is here to stay during Georgia’s 59-21 win over UMass on Saturday.
During the first half, Beck completed 11 of 14 passes for 191 yards and four touchdowns. Oh yeah, and he did that on just four possessions on offense.
Four touchdown passes during the first four drives is an insane stat. In fact, it’s something that hasn’t been seen in quite some time at Georgia.
Touchdown passes on first three possessions
This is the second time in Beck’s career that he has thrown three touchdowns on Georgia’s first three possessions of a game. However, the last time this was done by a diffierent Georgia QB was when Aaron Murray did it against Kentucky in 2013.
Not only did Beck match this stat against UMass, but he did one better by throwing a touchdown in Georgia’s first four possessions of the game. The SEC Network crew calling the game was unable to share when the last time that happened was, but there’s a chance it maybe has never been done before in Georgia football history.
Beck finished the game completing 20 of 31 passes for 297 yards. He was unable to find the end zone again in the second half, but he didn't need to because running back Nate Frazier scored three touchdowns of his own in the second half.
Beck has now played two very good games in a row. He is finally hitting his stride and playing at the level we thought he'd be at all season, which is good timing because postseason play is right around the corner.
