One of the biggest games in Georgia football history could be up next if UGA beats Ole Miss at the Sugar Bowl. Miami took down Ohio State Wednesday night in the first quarterfinal game of this year’s playoff, and that sets up the potential for a showdown between Georgia and former UGA quarterback Carson Beck in the semifinals.
Beck and Miami already did their part to create this matchup, so now they get to sit back and see if Georgia or Ole Miss will win Thursday night. But the moment Miami beat OSU everyone was talking about him potentially facing his former team. Well, everyone except Beck himself who refused to mention Georgia when he was asked about potentially facing them.
"Man, it's hard. You know when you look when the college football playoff bracket came out, it's hard not look forward to the games," Beck said via si.com. “You look at the bracket. You look at the way things could pan out. Now obviously, having beat Texas A&M and having beat Ohio State, earning the right to go out there and play in Arizona in the semifinals it's hard not to look forward to that and see the two teams we could end up playing. So I am super excited for this team and the opportunity to play in the semifinals and whichever team is able to win [the Sugar Bowl] we'll go in and prepare and make the most of it."
Carson Beck refuses to mention Georgia after beating Ohio State
It’s clear that Beck knows what could be coming next week if Georgia beats Ole Miss. In fact, it looks like he was thinking about playing Georgia the second the official bracket was released. But Beck refused to even mention them by name when he was asked about potentially playing Georgia.
It makes sense for Beck to not mention Georgia because it isn’t a guarantee that he will play them. Beck also probably wants to downplay facing his former team if it does happen because that could create a lot of unnecessary pressure on him. But if Georgia does win it will be impossible for him to avoid talking about facing his former team because that is all anyone will want to talk about.
Georgia however can’t afford to think about playing Beck right now. They need to handle their business against Ole Miss first, and if they do then everyone can begin hyping up what would easily be the most intriguing matchup in the Kirby Smart era.
