At the end of Georgia football's blowout loss to Ole Miss on Saturday, the camera panned to QB Carson Beck on the sidelines and it showed him smiling and laughing with a teammate while Georgia was minutes away from losing to the Rebels.
As one would imagine, social media errupted after seeing this. It appeared that Beck wasn't struggling with the fact that they were about to lose to Ole Miss, and was instead laughing about it.
However, now that a couple days since Saturday's game have passed, the air has finally been cleared about this moment. During Beck's postgame press conference, he explained his side of the story and what actually happened in that moment.
Carson Beck explains viral moment
“Oh, no, no, no. Woah. My teammate next to me is just trying to cheer me up because we’re down points,” Beck shared via onlineathens.com. “He’s like, ‘We’re still in this game.’ I’m like, ‘You’re right.’ I smiled back at him. I acknowledge that. So yeah, make sure that people understand.”
Parent Comments
Not only did Beck comment on this moment, so too did the parents of the two players involved. The first comment below is from Tracy Beck, which was shared on her personal Facebook page.
Harlen Rashada, a parent to backup QB Jaden Rashada who is the teammate sitting next to Beck in this moment, also came to the defense of Rashada and Beck.
So there you have it. What initially looked like an embarrassing moment for Beck is actually a beautiful moment between two teammates. Rashada was only trying to pick Beck up and keep him focused on the game. Good on Rashada for doing that becuase college football is a weird sport, so who knows if Georgia was going to have another chance to come back and win this game or not.
Next up for Georgia is another SEC showdown with No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday. Hopefully Beck and the entire Georgia team will be able to put this moment and loss behind them so they can come away with a big win this weekend.
