Georgia football has a lot of things they need to work on after their 34-20 win over Florida, but the one player who needs to improve the most is Carson Beck.
Beck once again struggled, throwing three interceptions for the second game in a row. But it wasn't all bad for Beck as he still completed 25 of 40 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns.
But regardless of all the good things, his decision-making is not where it needs to be. Beck knows this as well, and commented on that during his post game interview.
Carson Beck talks through his struggles against Florida
"It’s just an in-game decision-making thing,” Beck said via dawgnation.com. “I think there’s times where it’s okay to throw it away if it’s not there. And I think that’s something that I did a lot better of last year. And whether that’s me just trying to make a play and thinking that it has to happen every single time, which it doesn’t."
“We’ve got some stuff to fix and that starts with me.”
Thankfully Beck realizes and understands the mistakes he made. Beck also appears to know the fix for them as well. He doesn't need to make the big play ever time, sometimes he just needs to throw the ball away or take what he can get with his legs. But what he can't do is force the ball into double and triple coverage. That more often than not will result in an interception, which we saw twice in the first half.
As mentioned though, it wasn't all bad from Beck, even though that's how it may have felt right after the game. Outside of those two first half interceptions, Beck played very well and had the offense humming. He especially had the offense moving late in the game when Georgia took advantage of two key turnovers from Florida.
"We really didn’t get stopped unless I turned the ball over."
While this may be true, at the end of the day Beck did turn the ball over three times. Sure he made up for it later in the game which helped Georgia win this game, but that doesn't excuse the miscues we saw from him in the first half.
Beck is going to have to improve in a hurry. Georgia faces an Ole Miss team next that just scored 63 points on the road on Saturday against Arkansas. The Rebels are going to be ready for Georgia next weekend, and Beck and the offense are going to have to be ready to score a lot of points if they want to win this game.
