Most people think that Georgia football is going to have a QB competition this offseason. Carson Beck has been the starter for two seasons now, and after opting out of the NFL Draft last year to return for 2024, most thought this would be Beck's last season at Georgia. And that seemed like the obvious plan for a long time.
Beck entered this season as one of the top QB's on NFL Draft boards, and with a solid season he would easily be a first round draft pick. But that unfortunately is not how this season has played out for Beck.
So while most still assume Beck will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, he does still have a year of eligibility remaining and could make a return to Georgia for one final season.
Carson Beck could return for one more season
As mentioned, Beck does have one more year of eligibility he could use if he would like. And while he would defnitiely be drafted this year if he entered the NFL Draft, there are some good reasons why he should return to Georgia.
For starters, his NFL Draft stock has fallen throughout this season. Beck has not had the season anyone hoped for, and that has caused his draft stock to fall some. To be fair, he was still looking like a late first round to early second round pick, but even that projection recently took a hit.
Beck's injury during Georgia's win in the SEC Championship game is also causing some concerns from NFL scouts as well. If the injury ends up being minor then he will be healthy by the time the NFL Combine and Georgia's Pro Day roll around, but if it's a serious injury then he might not be able to participate in either. If that is the case then Beck's draft stock will plummet even more.
So these reasons do make a solid case for why Beck would be wise to return for one more season. Beck would have the chance to play his way back to the top of NFL Draft boards as opposed to falling down like he has all season.
This decision likely won't come until Georgia's season ends, but it is something that every Georgia fan will want to watch closely as we get into January.
