Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck took the field in the College Football Playoff semifinals Thursday night againt Ole Miss. Most Georgia fans wanted to see Beck lose because the thought of him winning a national title at a different school is too much to handle.

Unfortunately Beck and Miami beat Ole Miss 31-27 Thursday night and have earned their spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Beck advancing to the championship game isn't great for Georgia's pride, but Beck's success could end up hurting UGA on the recruiting trail even more.

Carson Beck's success at Miami is hurting the perception of Georgia football

Beck was unable to get over the hump while he was at Georgia. In 2023 as a first time starter he led Georgia to a 12-0 regular season, but a loss in the SEC Championship game kept Georgia out of the 12-team playoff. Fast forward to 2024 where Beck and Georgia lost two regular season games before losing in the quarterfinals of the CFP.

Most programs would be thrilled with the success Georgia found in those two seasons, but that isn't the case at UGA. Georgia wants to compete for National Championships, and in those two seasons they fell short of accomplishing that goal.

Beck however will play for a National Championship in his only season at Miami which is something he couldn't accomplish at Georgia. So what does that say about the Bulldogs? Some recruits might look at this and think that Georgia isn't the place for them because Beck immediately found more success the second he left the program. The best recruits in the country want to play where they can win a National Championship, and unfortunately Beck getting to the title game after leaving Georgia could make recruits think UGA can't get it done.

Sure Georgia has won two recent National Championships, but those titles are now three and four years old. And with Beck finding success the second he left Georgia, that could be really bad news for UGA on the recruiting trail.
