Carson Beck seeking second opinion after unfortunate MRI diagnosis
Georgia football starting QB Carson Beck's status remains unknown for their upcoming College Football Playoff game on Jan. 1. But after seeing his injury at the end of the first half, confidence among the fanbase that Beck could be healthy in time for their CFP game is not very high.
That confidence was decreased even more after Kirby Smart shared some details surrounding Beck's injury on Sunday.
But fast forward to Monday morning and Pete Nakos with On3 is reporting that Beck has been diagnosed with a UCL injury in his right elbow.
Beck is seeking a second opinion
It will be interesting to hear what Smart or Beck have to say the next time they meet with the media, but for now it appears that Beck is likely to miss Georgia's upcoming CFP game. Beck and Georgia are going to get a second opinion on his injury, so hopefully that opinion will paint a better picture.
On the bright side, if Beck is ruled out Georgia will have plenty of time to ramp up backup Gunner Stockton. It would be much more difficult for Georgia if this injury happened in the middle of the season, but the timing of this injury gives UGA over three weeks to get Stockton and the rest of the team ready to go into battle with a new QB under center.
It also is nice that Stockton was able to get his feet wet in the SEC Championship game against a defense like Texas. Georgia will not face a defense as good as Texas in their first two CFP games, so Stockton has already been chanllenged in a big way that will help him learn a lot going forward.
So as we wait to hear from Smart or Beck, all we can hope is that the injury isn't as serious as it currently sounds and that this second opinion will be better news for Georgia.
