Carson Beck and Miami miraculously advanced in the College Football Playoff by defeating Texas A&M on the road this past weekend. The game was not pretty by any means, but the weather had a lot to do with the low scoring affair this matchup turned into.
Miami defeated A&M 10-3 thanks to a fourth quarter touchdown drive and interception to seal the game. The Hurricanes however actually set a new CFP record during this victory, and they even stole this record from Georgia.
But no one at UGA should be upset that Beck and Miami now own this record.
Carson Beck, Miami stole a CFP record from Georgia
Winning a football game while only scoring 10 points is a tough thing to do. 99 percent of the time that is not enough points to win a football game, but on this day it was enough for Miami. Those 10 points ultimately set the record for the lowest points scored by the winning team in a game in the history of the playoff.
Georgia actually somewhat held this record as Notre Dame's 23 points in last season's Sugar Bowl was the previous record holder. So the Bulldogs thankfully do not hold that record anymore.
The best part about this victory however is that there is still a chance Georgia and Miami will face each other in the semifinals. If Georgia and Miami both win their next games they will meet in the semis with a trip to the National Championship game on the line. No one needs to be told how big of a game that would be because Georgia would be battling their former star QB who ditched the program this offseason.
A lot has to happen before that matchup occurs, but Georgia can thank Beck and Miami because they no longer hold the unfortunate record that Notre Dame handed them.
