Georgia has an amazing opportunity in front of them entering the 2026 season. After winning the SEC each of the last two years they have a chance to win it for a third year in a row which has almost never been done before.
No one needs to be told how difficult that will be to accomplish, but CBS Sports believes Georgia will do just that.
”It may not feel bold considering Kirby Smart has led Georgia to the SEC title game in eight of the past nine seasons, but history says otherwise,” Cody Nagel said via cbssports.com. “In the 34-year history of the SEC Championship Game, only twice has a school won at least three straight: Alabama (3, 2014-16) and Florida (4, 1993-96). If Georgia pulls it off in 2026, it'll join that exclusive company.”
Georgia could make SEC history this year
It may seem strange to consider this a “bold prediction” like CBS Sports suggests. Georgia will be one of the favorites to win the SEC this year, so it really wouldn’t be that crazy if they do it. But the reason they consider this a bold prediction is because only two programs have ever won the SEC at least three years in a row.
Florida won the SEC four years in a row from 1993-96 and Alabama did it more recently from 2014-16. So the fact that this has only been done two times before makes this a very bold prediction.
But if anyone can get it done it’s Georgia. They are the best program in the SEC and potentially in the country, and winning SEC Championships is the expectation every year.
So while winning the SEC three years in a row is a tall task, it shouldn’t be that surprising if Georgia pulls it off this year.
