The calendar has officially flipped to August which means that college football is almost back. Georgia football is also in the middle of their grueling fall camp as well, which is another sign that the greatest sport in the world is right around the corner.

However, neither of those things scream “college football is here” more than the first release of the coaches preseason top 25 poll.

Georgia crowned top 5 team entering 2025 season

According to the preseason college football coaches poll, Georgia is officially the No. 4 team in the country entering the 2025 season. The Bulldogs are the No. 2 team in the SEC according to this poll as the coaches named Texas the No. 1 team in the country. This aligns with the SEC media’s preseason conference rankings which had the Longhorns at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 2.

Rounding out the top five is the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 2, Penn State at No. 3 and Notre Dame at No. 5.

It seems like every college football fan and analyst this offseason had an opinion on Georgia. Most of those opinions weren’t too kind either as many questioned if Georgia would be anywhere near as good as they have been the last five years. But college football coaches across the country believe in this Georgia team and rewarded them with a very impressive ranking entering the season.

Preseason polls unfortunatelt have very little credibility to them. No one actually knows how good any team will be before the season begins, so very little value should be put in any ranking released before the season begins. But coaches are the people who know the most about the sport, so the fact that they believe in Georgia this much is a nice compliment for the Bulldogs a few weeks from their week one game against Marshall.
