The College Football Playoff committee released their final rankings of the season and locked in this year's playoff bracket. Georgia comfortably made the field as the No. 3 seed, but most of the country felt it was ridiculous that Ohio State stayed above them at No. 2 because they didn't win their conference championship game.
Unfortunately there is nothing Georgia can do to change anything, so they have to move forward with the path that was handed to them. And while they may have deserved a higher seed, the committee giving Georgia the 3-seed might actually have been the best thing that could have happened.
CFP committee did Georgia a big favor by giving them the No. 3 seed
Kirby Smart is a master motivator. He is able to turn any situation into the perfect storm that gives Georgia that extra push to compete as hard as they possibly can.
If Georgia entered the playoff as the 2-seed then he wouldn't have been able to use disrespect as a form of motivation. Indiana deserves the 1-seed, so coming in one spot behind them would have been the thing that made the most sense. Smart however will be able to motivate his team for their playoff run because the committee decided to give Georgia the 3-seed instead.
Smart will be able to point out that the committee thinks Ohio State is better than them even though they had the same record. He'll be able to show that Georgia had the far better resume and the committee still decided to gift the Buckeyes the 2-seed.
This should put Georgia in the best position possible to make a run at a National Championship, especially if the meet Ohio State in the semifinals.
So while there is a great argument for Georgia to deserve the 2-seed, the Bulldogs should be thankful they got the 3-seed so Smart can do what he does best now.
