Georgia football is sitting at home watching their worst nightmare unfold. The Bulldogs former starting quarterback, Carson Beck, ditched the program for Miami last year, and after leaving the program he immediately found a lot of success with his new team.
Beck and the Hurricanes barely squeaked into the College Football Playoff this season after finishing with a 10-2 mark in the regular season, but they have now won three playoff games in a row and will play for a national title. And now that they are heading to the National Championship game, the CFP committee has decided to give Miami a huge advantage.
CFP committee give Miami, Carson Beck a big advantage in the national title game
Miami beat Ole Miss Thursday night in the first semifinal matchup. The second matchup is unfolding one day later on Friday night between Indiana and Oregon. The winner of that game will play Miami in the National Championship game, but it's clear that the CFP committee gifted the Hurricanes a big advantage.
Miami will have an extra day of rest compared to their opponent in the championship game. That may not seem like a lot, but every extra day that Miami has off gives them that much more time to rest, heal up and prepare for the championship game. So while Indiana and Oregon are battling on the field Friday night, Miami will get to sit at home and watch the game unfold while they recover.
This is the second game in a row that Miami will have this advantage because their win over Ohio State in the quarterfinals occurred one day before Ole Miss beat Georgia in their quarterfinal matchup. It's also impossible not to mention that Miami will play for a national title in their home stadium.
It will be interesting to see if this advantage swings the championship game in Miami's favor or not. Both Indiana and Oregon are very strong teams, so this extra day off may not matter, but it does help Miami even by the slightest of margins which could be the difference in the championship game.
