The second edition of the College Football Playoff rankings that were released on Tuesday gave Georgia an extremely difficult path to a National Championship. The Bulldogs would have to go through No. 4 Alabama and No. 1 Ohio State just to make it to the National Championship game, and no one needs to be told how difficult that would be.
But before UGA would play either of those games they would have to get past their first round opponent. That is where Georgia’s CFP journey couldn’t get any easier as they would be matched up with 12-seed USF which on paper would be an easy win. But just how easy would it be?
FanDuel Sportsbook’s hypothetical line for this matchup was shared and Vegas would reportedly favor Georgia by a whopping 17.5 points.

Georgia handed easy first round CFP matchup based on current playoff bracket
Georgia being the 5-seed in the CFP based on Tuesday night’s rankings would really help them in the first round. Not only would their first round matchup be a home game, but they would get to play the worst team to make the 12-team field which in this case is South Florida. USF in this instance isn’t even close to a top 12 team, but since they are the highest ranked Group of Five champion they earn an automatic bid. So instead of playing the 12th best team Georgia would actually play the No. 24 team based on the committee’s rankings.
Georgia obviously would have to go out and earn a victory in this game still, but it’s hard to imagine any way they would lose this game. So while Georgia’s CFP path would be very difficult in the quarterfinals, they would have an easy first round victory thanks to the committee.
The CFP bracket will change a lot between now and the final release in December, but Georgia would have a lot to be thankful for if this is what the final bracket looked like.
