Chauncey Bowens and Nate Frazier could become the next great Georgia RB duo

It is a tall order to ask any Georgia to come close to what Bulldog legends Nick Chubb and Sony Michel delivered during their tenure in Athens.

But for the first time in the eight years since those two Georgia running backs left for their Sunday NFL paychecks, UGA has something that is starting to look a lot like the two-headed monster at the position.

Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens are starting to shine for Georgia

In the last two games for Georgia, Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens have looked like the highly ranked and heavily recruited backs that they were coming out of high school, and it has come at the best possible time.

Two weeks ago, against a stout Florida defense, Bowens broke out for 70 yards on just nine carries that included a huge 36-yard touchdown scamper to give Georgia a 24-20 win. It was his best performance of his career by far.

On Saturday against Mississippi State, Frazier busted loose, toting the rock 12 times for a whopping 181 yards. He had the longest running play this season when he broke free and sprinted for a 59-yard touchdown that put the team up 31-7 in the third quarter and put the game on ice as Georgia went on to win 41-21.

Bowens and Frazier have a thunder and lightning combo like Chubb and Michel

Chubb and Michel are inarguably the best backfield duo in the history of Georgia football. From 2014 to 2017, they combined for 8,407 yards and a whopping 77 touchdowns.

They did it with a combination of tough running between the tackles, and the speed to run away from second-level defenders to the house.

Admittedly, the young Frazier and Bowens have a long way to go to be considered in the same echelon as Chubb and Michel, but the last two games have proven that both can earn the tough yards and put the pedal to the metal in space.

Will they equal the all-time marks of Chubb and Michel, who are the second and third-ranked running backs in Georgia history (trailing only the great Herschel Walker)? It's unlikely, but the offensive line is healthy and appears to be gelling as a unit, and the two underclassmen are poised to hit the holes and give it their best shot.
