Georgia running back Chauncey Bowens has officially been ruled out for the Bulldogs' game against Florida this weekend. This will be the third game he's missed in a row, and after the start he had to the season this is a big loss for Georgia's offense.
Georgia however shouldn't panic over his loss even if he is their No. 2 back on their depth chart. Losing him for this game is tough to see, but it is something that Georgia can survive.
Georgia has the depth to survive without Chauncey Bowens
Georgia has plenty of depth to get on just fine without Bowens. The biggest reason why is because they have Nate Frazier who is their No. 1 running back this season.
Frazier has been dealing with an injury of his own this year, but Auburn two weeks ago was his first game back and after having extra time off this past week he should be back to 100 percent if he wasn't already.
Georgia also has Dwight Phillips who has been having a great season this year too. So far this season he has 348 rushing yards and two touchdowns which includes a huge performance at Alabama where he went for 120 yards when both Frazier and Bowens were out. Bo Walker has been good in spurts as well as he has 203 yards on just 20 carries.
Georgia clearly would be better off with Bowens, but these three running backs should be more than enough for UGA to find success on the ground against Florida this weekend.
Chauncey Bowens appears to be closing in on his return
Last week there were concerns that Bowens could be out for a majority of the season. That would've obviously been worst-case scenario, but it looks like he is getting close to a return.
Sure he won't be playing this weekend against Florida, but the fact he was still questionable to play on Wednesday's injury report shows that his health is improving. If he was still weeks away from playing again he would've already been ruled out on Wednesday's report, but that didn't happen.
Reports also surfaced earlier this week that Bowens was practicing. He reportedly was only going through agility drills and not participating in full contact portions of practice, but this is still a step in the right direction.
The best teams in the country are able to continue to win even when they're dealing with injuries. That is what Georgia is going to have to do without Bowens this weekend, but the good news is that he appears to be getting close to making his return. Georgia has a big game at Ole Miss next weekend, so that would be the perfect time for him to make his return.
