Georgia football has been in a long battle with USC as both programs have been fighting to earn the No. 1 spot in the 2026 team recruiting rankings. While these two programs continue to battle it out for that crown, they are also going head to head for one of the top recruits in the 2027 class from the state of California.
That recruit is corner Donte Wright who committed to Georgia on June 30. Wright currently is Georgia's top commit in the 2027 class as well, so he is someone Gerogia does not want to lose. However, even though he is committed to Georgia, a new report from si.com indicates that the Trojans are looking to flip Wright from Georgia.
USC is looking to flip 4-star CB from Georgia
According to the 247Sports compsite rankings, Wright is the No. 72 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 7 corner in the 2027 class and the No. 7 player from his home state of California.
The fact that he is from California makes this new report very interesting because if anyone was going to be able to flip him from Georgia it likely would be an in-state school. USC however isn't just any school because they have been one of the hottest teams in the country on the recruiting trail during the 2026 recruiting cycle.
The Trojans also seem to have a much improved NIL department as well because they have reportedly been handing out large offers to some of their top commits.
USC isn't the only program attempting to flip Wright either as Oregon has been linked to Wright as well.
Only time will tell how this recruitment plays out, but at this point Wright's commitment to Georgia seems shaky at best. Hopefully Kirby Smart and his staff are able to hold on to Wright because he is about as good as they come at corner in high school recruiting.
