Georgia football received some great news last week on the recruiting trail for the No. 3 safety in the country. That recruit is five-star Jireh Edwards, who is the No. 24 overall player in the country and the No. 3 player from Maryland, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Just last week, a crystal ball prediction was logged in Georgia’s favor on 247Sports for UGA to win this recruitment. While this was obviously very exciting for Georgia fans to see, one prediction should never make anyone feel overly confident in any recruitment. That is especially the case when the prediction comes out of nowhere.
Unfortunately for Georgia, Adam Gorney with Rivals also weighed in on Edwards’ recruitment as well, and he paints a completely different picture than 247Sports.
"Alabama, Georgia and Oregon have emerged as the three front-runners for the five-star safety from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances and the word is that the Crimson Tide lead in his recruitment," Gorney shared via uga.rivals.com.
Georgia no longer leads for 5-star Jireh Edwards
According to Gorney, the Bulldogs are not the team leading for Edwards as he believes Alabama is the team on top right now. In fact, he doesn’t even think Georgia is in second place right now either.
"What’s interesting is that Oregon is second on the list and if communication picked up from the Ducks they might be able to move even higher."
Edwards has already taken his official visit to Georgia, so there isn’t much of a chance for UGA to improve their standing with him. And the fact that he still has upcoming visits with Alabama and Oregon before his scheduled commitment date of July 5 is very concerning as well.
Maybe Gorney is wrong with this report, but this does make it seem like Georgia fans should no longer be getting their hopes up in this recruitment.
