Georgia football continues to have more players enter the transfer portal, and that includes three players entering the portal all on the same day earlier this week. On the bright side for UGA however, nobody that’s entered the portal has been a major contributor on the team, so each loss really hasn’t been all that bad.
And that trend continued on Saturday with the latest Georgia player to enter the portal in defensive back Jake Pope.

Similarly to all of the other players to enter the portal, Pope has not been that impactful in his one season at Georgia. In fact, he did not play in one game this season with Georgia. So that fact alone makes it not surprising to see him enter the portal and look for a new program.
But there’s a more obvious reason why this decision makes a lot of sense.
Pope caused a lot of drama off the field
Do you remember the video that went viral on social media after Georgia lost to Ole Miss earlier this season? The video showed a Georgia player jumping up and down and celebrating with Ole Miss fans after the Rebels upset the Bulldogs.
The player involved in that video was Pope.
Pope was slammed on social media by Georgia fans, and was even called an idiot by Kirby Smart. Sure he had an explanation for this interaction with family friends, but that explanation didn’t completely make up for what he did. This moment likely caused a massive divide between him and the rest of the team, so it is not surprising at all to see him depart the program.
After failed stints at Alabama and Georgia, it will be interesting to see where Pope ends up now. Wherever it is though, he better think about he acts whenever his new team loses.
