Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann flew under the radar this past season. Maybe that had something to do with the defense's slow start to the season, but Schumann deserved a lot more recognition after his defense started playing much better in the second half of the season.
Even if he didn't receive much public attention, Schumann has been getting noticed from other schools. Many believe it is just a matter of time until he leaves Georgia to become a head coach elsewhere, and in all honesty it is surprising that it hasn't happened yet.
But Schumman apparently is already planning his departure as he said it is "only a matter of time" until he leaves to become a head coach.
“Only a matter of time.”

At 35, Glenn Schumann says he’s intentional. Happy in Athens. Here on purpose.
But elite defensive minds don’t stay DCs forever. Does he make the jump in the next cycle — or stay patient under Kirby Smart? #DawgNationDaily pic.twitter.com/thwcTu5sxY
Glenn Schumann could be on his way out soon
Many Georgia fans were not happy with Schumann's performance at the start of last season. And they had every right to be upset after Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss had their way with UGA's defense. But then a switch flipped and Georgia starting playing much better on defense.
Schumann was linked with a couple job openings this offseason, most notably with the opening at Florida. It was never quite clear how serious those talks were, but the Gators did show a little interest in him. But Schumman has earned the right to be a little picky when it comes to what job he takes, and that is the exact position Kirby Smart was in a decade ago.
Just like Schumann is now, Smart was a defensive coordinator at an elite program (Alabama) for a long time. He could've left the Tide much sooner than he did, but he was waiting for the right job to open up. The right opportunity for him came when Georgia came calling, and Smart took it and has never looked back.
Who knows what the right opportunity is for Schumann, but he is no hurry to leave Georgia. But he knows that his time will come, it will be a sad day when he decides to leave Athens.
