Dan Lanning's miscalculated SEC comments proves that he no longer has any Dawg in him

Dan Lanning tried to take a jab at the SEC and completely fell flat on his face with such a lame dig.

Maybe Dan Lanning really wants to be an Oregon lifer? Despite having ties to the SEC from his days working under Kirby Smart at Georgia and Nick Saban at Alabama, Lanning seems to be loving life as the third-best team in the Big Ten for the time being. Oregon has never won a national championship, but you would have thought they did by how they conducted themselves after beating Iowa and USC.

Is Oregon a playoff team? Probably. The Ducks are 10-1 (7-1) with only major rival Washington left. If they beat the Huskies, they are surely getting in. With a second conference loss, the Ducks might fall below the cutline of other more deserving teams, especially ones out of the SEC like Alabama and Vanderbilt. Lanning poked the bear after beating one of the most finesse teams in the nation in USC.

Lanning was really feeling himself with this dig at the SEC, one that feel deaf ears with miscalculation.

"This conference is a really good conference, it's competitive. We didn't play Chattanooga State today, like some other places, right? We competed."

This is the same Oregon program who played Montana State, Oklahoma State and Oregon State...

This jab at Chattanooga was done in poor taste, and it shows Oregon is a bunch of fake tough guys.

Dan Lanning criticizing the SEC is why he will never win a national title

Yes, it may have been cupcake week in the SEC. Alabama annihilated Eastern Illinois, Georgia beat Charlotte. Texas A&M clobbering Samford. Ole Miss was on a bye. While Texas and Vanderbilt had conference games, they were against lowly Arkansas and Kentucky. It should be noted that Oklahoma had to play Missouri, which is about the same as Oregon playing USC, to be totally honest.

If we really wanted to, we could go through and compare Oregon's resume to ever playoff-contending team in the SEC in question. One would think no more than two would have weaker resumes than Oregon. While Lanning is clearly trying to ignite a spark in his team, he is barking up the wrong tree. He leads a team full of impressionables, the same kind of guys who never win diddly poo anywhere?!

Assuming Oregon makes the playoff, every SEC team that could conceivably play them will see that comment from Lanning and will try even more to bludgeon them senselessly. Not every SEC team is capable of knocking off Oregon, but Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas A&M are among the ones who can. Lanning is not about the smoke, which is why he stays over at Oregon.

If Lanning really thought he was a great head coach, he would take over at LSU, Auburn or Florida.
