Dave Portnoy's unsuccessful Georgia troll job just another victory for the Diamond Dawgs

If you aren't familiar with Dave Portnoy -- the founder of Barstool Sports -- then this morning's rant about the Georgia Bulldogs being "dead" to him may have seemed harsh and worth a response.

However, those who have borne witness to his sideshow over the years know that Portnoy is just intentionally pushing buttons to get a rise out of fans, particularly those fans of teams he rarely addresses.

Such was the case this morning, when the Barstool CEO went full Portnoy on Georgia after being denied an interview request with Bulldogs superstar and Golden Spikes winner, Daniel Jackson. Portnoy and fellow Barstool personality (and well-known Mississippi State supporter) Brandon Walker talked a lot of trash on Wake Up Barstool.

Georgia survived their Super Regional tilt against Mississippi State this weekend in what was two of the best college baseball games of the season, and it's a certainty that Portnoy wanted to rub a little salt in Walker's wounds.

Dave Portnoy's Georgia troll attempt fell short and didn't land

Most of what Portnoy does is performative with the sole purpose of getting a reaction out of people, and that is exactly what he tried to do with Georgia fans. While there were some responses from the Bulldog Nation, the majority centered around the sentiment of "Umm...we don't care, Dave".

It would've been fun to see Jackson on their show to talk about their Super Regional win and Georgia's expectations heading into the College World Series. It would've been a hilarious interview because Wake Up Barstool co-host Brandon Walker is an avid Mississippi State fan and Portnoy would've made sure to rub Georgia's Super Regional sweep in his face.

Georgia doesn't need any distractions heading into the College World Series

The last thing Georgia needs right now are distractions. Sure this may have seemed like a simple interview Jackson could've done, but right now Georgia needs him to be focused on preparing for the CWS later this week.

Georgia also just played two high intensity games this weekend. Why would they want Jackson waking up early one day later for a five minute interview that probably would've turned into something that had nothing to do with baseball after the first few minutes?

So Dave Portnoy did what Dave Portnoy does - rant, troll, and try to paint his show and his approval as the most important thing on the planet in a true WWE-style vignette.

Rest assured, Daniel Jackson, the Georgia Baseball team, and the University of Georgia athletics department are indifferent to Portnoy's maneuvers to sway an audience.

Georgia's first game at the College World Series will take place on Friday, June 11 or Saturday, June 12 against the Texas Longhorns. An official date and game time will be announced later on Monday once the full eight-team CWS field is set. Our bet is that both Portnoy and Walker will be watching, and if they choose to cheer against Georgia then they could be in for a long College World Series.
