David Pollack invites comparisons to Georgia great RB in discussing 2026 backfield

An overlooked Georgia running back really stood out to David Pollack during G-Day.

Every year G-Day gives every Bulldog a chance to prove what they're made of. That is especially the case for the newcomers to Georgia who are looking to make a name for themselves more than anyone else.

That is the position that transfer running back Dante Dowell found himself in after coming to Athens earlier this year from Kentucky.

With a loaded running back room it is not a guarantee that Dowell would play a lot this year. So he more than anyone else needed to have a big spring to try and move up the depth chart before fall camp begins.

And according to David Pollack he did just that.

"He ran like he had something to prove. He ran like he wanted to show people. Every carry mattered. Every carry had a little sauce to it. Knowshon Moreno was so good at it. Just to be able to bring that energy repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly... That backfield looks absolutely loaded."

David Pollack is buying all of the Dante Dowdell stock that he can

Dowdell had the best season of his career in 2024 at Nebraska. During that year he recorded 614 yards and a whopping 12 touchdowns. He then made the move to Kentucky last year where he tallied 560 yards and three scores.

Dowdell now has one more year of eligibility remaining and is looking to make an impact on a Georgia team with championship aspirations. And Pollack believes he made a great case for why he deserves playing time based on his performance at G-Day.

It will still be difficult for him to get snaps this season. He will always sit behind Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens who form one of the best running back duos in the country. But as it stands today he has made it impossible for Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo to not give him significant playing time this fall.
