There are a lot of interesting storylines that Georgia football fans will be able to follow this coming season. But potentially one of the most interesting storylines will be seeing how Gunner Stockton (assuming he wins the starting job) does in his first full season as a starter.
Another twist to that storyline is how Stockton will do compared to former UGA quarterback Carson Beck. A lot of people will want to compare the two QBs this season after Beck transferred to Miami (FL), but that may not be the most fair comparison because they are playing in two totally different situations.
But the statement that former Georgia legend David Pollack recently made is potentially a better way to see how Stockton does compared to Beck.
"I think Gunner Stockton will have a better year this year than Carson Beck had last year," Pollack stated.
How possible is this to happen?
The one thing missing from Georgia's team last year was a consistent offense. The defense was elite like they usually are and the offense definitely had their moments, but a lack of consistency on offense plagued the Bulldogs too many times last season.
So will Stockton actually be able to have a better season in 2025 than Beck did last year like Pollack is predicting?
The offense is definitely setup for Stockton to have a better year because of the two big acquisitions to Georgia's wide receiver room from the transfer portal. On top of that, Nate Frazier returns for his second season in Georgia's backfield and there is a great chance he takes a step forward this year as well. Sure Frazier's stats don't directly impact the perception of Stockton's season, but a better running game will make life easier for Stockton in the passing game.
But it may not be that difficult for Stockton to surpass Beck's 2024 season because of his struggles with turning the ball over. Beck threw a whopping 12 interceptions last season, so if Stockton is able to keep his interception total in the single digits then there will be a great chance he has a better season in 2025 than Beck did in 2024.
